Students from various schools debate global issues at Model UN Conference

 


Chandigarh: Three days of extensive debating on global issues by the brightest young minds came to an end with the official closing of The John’s Model United Nations Conference, 2022. The three-day conference was officially declared open by Mr. Patrick Hébert, Consul General of Canada in Chandigarh. The conference was packed with action at all times as not only did it facilitate committee sessions, but there were also insightful workshops and sessions conducted by The University of Windsor, Silver Fern Education Consultants, and CLAT Possible.

Students from some of the best schools from across the country representing different nations as delegates passionately contributed their thoughts on topics such as the implementation of a Draft Uniform Civil Code, ending violence against women in conflicted regions, and solving the refugee crisis resulting from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, etc. These discussions were spread over 7 committees including United Nations Women, Lok Sabha, United Nations Security Council, and others.

The second day of the conference ended on a fun note with DJ Aerreo and the school’s official school band 'The Soaring Eagles' making the students dance to its tunes.

The second edition of The John’s Model United Nations Conference 2022 ended with a bang at Tagore theatre as it was graced by the invaluable presence of one of St. John’s most successful old boys and a mega Bollywood celebrity, Ayushmann Khurana. Ayushmann’s presence lit up the entire hall with students screaming in excitement as his presence was kept as a surprise by the organizers of the conference.

The superstar also sang some of his own songs and shook a leg along with the students and the school principal on stage. The award winners of the conference were felicitated by him making the conference even more memorable for them. The principal of St. John’s High School, Chandigarh, Mrs. Kavita C. Das closed the conference by announcing the dates of The John’s MUN 2023 as 6th, 7th, and 8th October.
